故事讲述的是一个乡下青年Ronwell Quincy Dobbs (David Cross)，他拥有一个喜好就是与人玩‘抓贼’游戏，一个英国电视主持人Terry Twillstein (Bob Odenkirk)知道后，与他接触并带Ronnie去好莱坞去做‘真人秀’。罗尼开始要重新处理他与新老婆，前妻之间的关系，还有其他一切的日常事务……
