创作背景

《Miss Independent》是瑞特·劳伦斯为节奏蓝调女子团体真命天女创作的一首歌曲，瑞特·劳伦斯在将歌曲写完成后就打算将其送给该女团。但意想不到的是，该女团拒绝录制这首歌曲。之后，瑞特·劳伦斯又与克里斯蒂娜·阿奎莱拉、马特·莫里斯将这首歌曲作为专辑《Stripped》中的歌曲来制作，并为它取名“Miss Independence”。但最终克里斯蒂娜·阿奎莱拉还是放弃了将歌曲收入专辑的想法，这首歌曲也就处于未完成（缺少一段句点抒情部分）状态。最后瑞特·劳伦斯和凯莉·克莱森的经纪人西蒙·富勒鼓励凯莉·克莱森为这首歌曲填词，并定名为“Miss Independent”。《Miss Independent》是《Thankful》收录歌曲中凯莉·克莱森最喜欢的一首。
