咖啡和香烟 (2003) 剧照(6)这是一个由十一个小故事综合起来的短片集。每个短片都围绕着香烟和咖啡展开，但并不以这两样物体为主。“加州某处”讲的是音乐家汤姆·维茨（汤姆·维茨 饰）和伊基·波普（伊基·波普 饰）在酒吧里第一次相遇。他们很快地起了争执：维茨认为真正的英雄和音乐家需要很强的自我反省和自制能力，伊基·波普则觉得刚好相反，英雄和这些无关。“双胞胎”讲的是两个要好的朋友，约好了一起出游，发现一个是好莱坞的超级影迷，无比热爱好莱坞，另一个对好莱坞恨之入骨，恨不得一把火烧了好莱坞。

“精神错乱”讲的是一个三人说唱组因一份遗嘱而得到的荒谬的滑稽和因咖啡而得到的美好历程。这是其中的三个故事，其余的更多精彩影片内容，在这里先卖个关子，等大家观看了再说吧！^[2]

Coffee and Cigarettes是他的 短片集，11个 黑白故事，11组人物关系，把JJ冷峻而不显山露水的幽默感以及人性的种种微妙之处表现的淋漓尽致，或许这样的短片（包括 十分钟年华老去里那个）才正是他电影的精髓，也不像 林奇的短片那么晦涩难懂。 

演员阵容明星云集，大多都是在他电影里出现过的老面孔（或者将会出现在他的电影里），而且都是扮演的本人，音乐人也不少，Tom Waits，Iggy Pop，White Stripes内俩，Wu Tang-Clan的GZA和RZA，让这片子看上去就好象是贾木许家族的一个大聚会。我最喜欢Tom Waits与Iggy Pop以及Alfred Molina与Steve Coogan（24 Hour Party People的主角）这两段，对人物内心的微妙变化的刻画倒并非有多深刻细腻，而是凸显了他非凡的幽默感，从这点上来说，Tom Waits和JJ倒是非常相像（另有没有人觉得Tom Waits长的很像James Hetfiled？）
