简介
种属于细盲蛇科( thread snakes)、名叫" leptotyphlops carlae”的蛇，被科学家认定为世界上最小的蛇。这种蛇是在加勒比海的巴巴多斯海岛上发现的，平均长度只有10厘米，粗细则只相当于一根意大利面条。
发现这种蛇的美国宾夕法尼亚州州立大学生物学教授布莱尔·赫吉斯称，这种蛇是他偶然于巴巴多斯岛上发现的，主要分布于美洲热带、亚热带地区和非洲，少数种类见于美国西南部、阿拉伯、印度和巴基斯坦。赫吉斯常年致力于发掘海岛上未知的爬行动物，并取得了辉煌的成就，他还于1993年及2001年先后发现了世界上最小的壁虎和最小的青蛙。
细盲蛇科的蛇体型比盲蛇纤细,而且构造也与其他盲蛇不太一样，细盲蛇科的蛇牙齿长在下颌而非上颌，用于捕捉幼虫及吞食猎物。但这种蛇通常是无毒性的，眼睛也没有视觉功能。赫吉斯发现，这种蛇盘起直径只有24厘米，相当于一枚25美分的硬币。他们的体内只能够孕育一个蛇卵，由此也可以推断出世界上不可能再找到比这更小的蛇了。因为体型再细小一些，从生物学的角度上说它们是不可能产卵繁殖的。

蛇目，体长为20厘米，头部较圆，身体纤细，尾部较短，身体背面主要为暗褐色至黑色。
分布于从苏丹，赞比亚到南非一带，栖息于草原，灌丛等地带，昼夜均活动，善于挖掘，冬季集群，每群多达100条以上。
细盲蛇(6)细盲蛇属（学名：Leptotyphlops）是蛇亚目细盲蛇科下的一个无毒蛇属，主要分布于北美洲、南美洲、非洲及西南亚等。共有86个品种已被确认。
生活习性
大部分细盲蛇外表都像有光泽的蚯蚓。它们多以棕色或粉红色为主，体型幼小，身体上的鳞片有明显的节状纹理。其它种类的盲蛇大概也有类似的特征，不过该类盲蛇多以黑色为主。细盲蛇的眼睛极小，仅成点状，而且几乎没有视力。习性
盲蛇都善于掘洞，并栖息于地下。平时它们大都生活于地洞之中，只有在雨天时才可能爬上地面。盲蛇的主要食物是蚂蚁和白蚁，与及它们的虫卵和幼虫。
地理分布
细盲蛇(4)细盲蛇广泛分布于美洲、非洲及西南亚，亚洲，欧洲。在美洲里，细盲蛇分布于美国西南部、大部分中美洲及南美洲（包括乌拉圭及阿根廷）一带。
