东华理工大学外国语学院

School of Foreign Languages at East China Institute of Technology (ECIT) was founded in 2005. The origin of the School goes back to the Teaching and Research Section ofForeign Languages in the Basic Course Department, mainly responsible for the foreign language teaching of undergraduates. Named as Department of Foreign Languages in 1999, it then began to offer Bachelor’s degree program.

On June 2005, School of Foreign Languages was restructured from Department of Foreign Languages and thus formally established.

The School consists of the Department of English, the Department of Japanese, the Department of College English and the Institute of Foreign Linguistics and Applied Linguistics. Presently, it offers 2 undergraduate language programs: English, Japanese. The School has an annual enrollment of about 300 full-time undergraduate students. At present, the total number of the students is 1166, in which 797 are English major and 369 Japanese major. In addition to the regular teaching activities for majors, it assumes the responsibility of teaching both the college English and the postgraduate English courses in ECIT.

外国语学院现设有英语系、日语系、大学外语教学部三个教学系部和一个外国语言学及应用语言学研究中心。学院目前招收培养英语、日语两个专业本科生，每年招收学生约300名。现有在校学生总数为1166人，其中797名英语专业学生，369名日语专业学生。除承担两个专业本科生的教学任务外，学院还承担东华理工大学全校本科生、专科生及研究生的大学英语教学。

Presently, the School has 122 full-time staff, including 108 full-time instructors. Among them are 2 professors, 28 associate professors, and 78 lecturers and assistants. Two faculty members hold PhD, 75 hold bachelor’s degrees and 3 teachers are candidates for a PhD. Each year about 20 foreign experts work in the school.

学院现有教职工总数为122人，其中专任教师108人。教师中具有正高职称的2人，副高职称28人，讲师助教78人。教师中具有博士学位的3人，硕士学位75人，在读博士3人。此外学院常年聘请外籍教师20人。

With the training mode of "foundation integrated with modules", the school has always been focusing on the improvement of its teaching quality, aiming at cultivating the talents of versatility and capability with solid foundation of foreign languages and relatively extensive knowledge of science and culture. Through the mutual effort made by the teachers and students, the learning construction of is outstanding and the output is conspicuous. Over the years our students of English have passed TEM -4 at an annual average rate of 85%, high above the nation's average level. The passage ratio of TEM-4 in 2010 is high above 93%. Students have won lots of prizes and honors in nationwide and provincial competitions and contests of foreign language proficiency. In order to enrich students’ extracurricular life and nurture a sound-learning environment for foreign-language studies, the school has been organizing a variety of extracurricular activities. Graduates completing the undergraduate training are expected to master the basic professional knowledge of their major and to be successfully qualified for the domains such as scientific research, business activities, culture exchange, tourism, education.

学院一直致力于提高教学质量，坚持“基础模块”的培养模式，注重培养具有扎实外语基础和深厚科学文化 素养的高素质复合型人才。通过师生的共同努力，学院教学成效明显。我院英语专业学生英语专业四级考试通过率连续多年保持在85%以上，远远高于全国平均水平。其中2010年一次性通过率更是高达93%以上。我院学生在全国性及全省范围的外语水平竞赛中获得许多奖项和荣誉，成绩优异。为丰富学生的课余生活，营造良好的外语学习氛围，学院坚持开展丰富多彩的第二课堂活动。通过在校期间的本科教育，学生具备基本的专业素养和职业素质，毕业后能够胜任科研、商务、文化交流、旅游、教育等领域的工作岗位。

The school is committed to improving its capacity of scientific research. It has established close academic exchange relations with quite a few universities both at home and abroad. In the past 5 years, the staff have published a total of more than 100 papers in academic periodicals; they have written, edited or translated 10 academic books or textbooks. And an increasing number of research projects of our staff have been approved. It is creating conditions for the enrollment of master-degree students in the near future.

学院重视提高科研水平。目前和国内外几所大学建立了学术交流关系。在过去的5年中，学院教师在学术期刊上发表的论文总数超过100篇，编著和翻译学术专著及教材10部，教师获得立项的研究课题项目数量逐年上升。学院正在积极创造条件，期望不久获得硕士点招收硕士研究生。

The School is equipped with up-to-date teaching facilities. Currently, it possesses 20 well-equipped language laboratories, two self-access foreign language learning centers, one simultaneous interpreting laboratory, one English FM broadcasting station, one international trade process laboratory, one digital audio broadcasting system and sufficient multifunctional classrooms. In addition, the school sets up 7 practice bases to provide students with internship opportunities. The School library has a collection of 4,000 books and more than 20 kinds of journals and academic periodicals. The teaching facilities provide a comfortable teaching environment and convenient learning resources.

学院拥有现代化的教学设施。现有20个设施先进的语言实验室、2个外语自主学习中心、1个英语调频广播 电台、1个同声传译实验室、1套数字音频广播系统和充足的多功能教室。另外，学院还建立了7个实习基地供学生实习。学院资料室拥有4000多册图书，20多种专业学术期刊。完善的教学设施为师生提供了舒适的教学环境和便捷的学习资源。
