艾伦·泰勒在2004年作为导演参加了 HBO的西部电视剧《 死木》的拍摄，这部电视剧聚焦在一个美国西部小城上，泰勒担任了“Here Was a Man”这一集的导演。

他的父亲詹姆斯·泰勒是一名录像师，母亲是博物馆的一名主管。詹姆斯曾经在加拿大 渥太华居住过10年的时间，并于1976年从高中毕业。1994年泰勒与尼基· 莱德曼结婚，并育有3个子女。
