《Part of Me》由凯蒂·佩里、Dr. Luke、马克斯·马丁、Cirkut编曲制作，歌词的后期修改由女歌手邦妮·麦琪通宵完成^[5]。凯蒂·佩里在接受采访时表示，《Part of Me》是在两年前（2010年）录制专辑《Teenage Dream》的时候就写好了，只不过因为这首歌与整张专辑曲风不搭，所以才没有把它收录到专辑中^[6][7]。

《Part of Me》是一首以强力流行乐为主的流行舞曲，并融入了Dance-Rock、浩室音乐，拥有每分钟130次的贯穿节拍^[8]，歌曲音调以D小调为主，歌手的音域必须从D₄横跨至D₅，和弦变化依循“Dm-F-Bb-C”^[9]。从歌词中一些诸如“你可以保留我们的钻戒，它现在对于我来说已经什么也不是”的内容中，可以看出整首歌曲充满的讽刺和挖苦^[6][10]。

歌曲MV拍摄于2012年2月16日，拍摄地点主要选在加利福尼亚的美国海军陆战队基地，MV导演由本·莫尔担任。在MV中，凯蒂·佩里化身被男友背叛劈腿的痴情女子，为疗伤而剪发、裹胸、报名参军，通过了短暂的招募培训、现场报道以及严格的基本作战指令后，被发配到军事基地进行军礼、火力和作战训练；在困难的军营生活中，女主人公逐渐淡忘了与劈腿男友的儿女情长，并继续艰苦奋斗的过着军人生活^[11][12]。
