艾薇儿自己形容这张专辑：“酷，跩，很冲，粉直接，自信满满，精力旺盛”就如同以往一样！ 这张专辑的制作是经过了多人的努力，像Dr. Luke (Kelly Clarkson, P!nk, Lady Sovereign and Daughtry),她先生德瑞克惠柏利 (魔数41乐团), Rob Cavallo (Green Day, The Goo Goo Dolls, My Chemical Romance, Jewel), Butch Walker 及她自己本人 Travis Barker (崔维斯巴克, 眨眼182乐团, +44)也为了这张专辑尽了心力，在其中担任她的鼓手。

在本张专辑的一般发行的专辑版本中已将一些引起争议的字眼、用语移除了。包括“女朋友”、“没你我更好”（I Can Do Better）、“不要你回来”（Everything Back But You）、“试都不用试”（I Don't Have to Try）等四首歌，都做了修改。在“没你我更好”所有提到“shit”的字都以“shhh”的音盖过。而在“不要你回来”中，“bitch”和“slut”的字眼则是以与“女朋友”中相似的“hey”音替代。无独有偶，在“试都不用试”的歌词中曾提到“Get ready, motherfucker”，最终以重复一次的“Get ready”的方式取代。只有在CD/DVD版里才保留了原来未经修饰的版本。这次艾薇儿在美国发行的唱片将被冠上家长指导（Parental Advisory）标签。尽管早在上张专辑“酷到骨子里”就已有部份国家/地区为此贴上儿童不宜的标签，但却是在美国的第一次。主因是歌曲中出现了太多的脏话字词，像是“女朋友”中的motherfucking及“不要你回来”里的合唱就出现了“...bitch, slut, psycho babe...”。 

整张专辑在2007年4月14日晚间六点的时候首先于渥太华的广播电台HOT 89.9首播。其中第一张单曲《女朋友》（Girlfriend）原定于1月29日首先发行。但由于前张单曲"Keep Holding On"在广播中的热度持续发烧，因而暂缓了日期。2月26日艾薇儿在渥太华电台HOT 89.9推出首个"Girlfriend"的影片。Evan是她的吉他伴手在她的影片登场一次，已在MySpace网志确认。

艾薇儿·拉维尼已经开始了《美丽坏东西》的小型宣传之旅、进行表演。只有歌友会的会员能够进场。巡回演唱首站选在加拿大亚伯特省的卡加利，而当时只有大约200名观众。卡加利站的演出已于2007年4月2日时在CBC Network上播出，节目内容包括艾薇儿演唱美丽坏东西以及幕后花絮。

2007年2月17日"Everything Back But You"、"I Can Do Better"及"When You're Gone"的宣传短片在AOL Music播放。

2007年3月21日，这专辑可于爱尔兰及英国iTunes Store预订。分别在4月13日及4月16日发售 。

歌曲《Alone》（在专辑限量版附送） 可于3月29日澳大利亚及新西兰的iTunes Store下载。

2007年4月1日，"Girlfriend" 成为英国单曲榜UK Singles Chart亚军，急升21位。这是她在英国单曲榜最高位置，之前"Complicated"曾打入单曲榜季军。

2007年4月4日，此专辑被公布在网络上，可在档案分享的网站上下载。

4月14日，发行了修改版。它删剪了大部份歌曲过激的脏话。

2007年4月15日，此专辑在加拿大的Mix FM电台首播。

"Girlfriend"在3月初期在Billboard Hot 100排行榜排第五，这是艾薇儿出道以来最高排名以及在iTunes的下载次数超过12万2千次。 "Girlfriend"在illboard's Top Digital Songs排行榜排第三。 歌曲"Girlfriend" 有七种语言版本，与英语版不同之处只是将歌词被翻译成西班牙语、葡萄牙语、中文、日语、意大利语、德语及法语。Avril's接着发行的单曲"Girlfriend" 在24小时之内成为iTunes Store第10。
